Perdue Foods has issued a recall for over 167,000 pounds of frozen chicken nuggets and tenders after customers reported finding wires embedded in the products. The recall includes specific lots of three products: Perdue Breaded Chicken Breasts, Butcher Box Organic Chicken Breast Nuggets, and Perdue Simply Smart Organics Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets. The contamination was discovered after an undisclosed number of customer complaints, leading the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service to determine that approximately 167,171 pounds of product may have been affected by foreign matter.

Perdue, based in Maryland, confirmed that the foreign material was found in a limited amount of consumer packaging. Senior vice president Jeff Shaw stated that the material was identified as a very fine wire that was accidentally introduced during the manufacturing process.
