Perdue Foods Recalls 167,000 Pounds of Chicken Nuggets Due to Contamination
Perdue Foods has issued a recall for over 167,000 pounds of frozen chicken nuggets and tenders after customers reported finding wires embedded in the products. The recall includes specific lots of three products: Perdue Breaded Chicken Breasts, Butcher Box Organic Chicken Breast Nuggets, and Perdue Simply Smart Organics Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets. The contamination was discovered after an undisclosed number of customer complaints, leading the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service to determine that approximately 167,171 pounds of product may have been affected by foreign matter.
Identification of Contaminated Products
Perdue, based in Maryland, confirmed that the foreign material was found in a limited amount of consumer packaging. Senior vice president Jeff Shaw stated that the material was identified as a very fine wire that was accidentally introduced during the manufacturing process. As a precautionary measure, Perdue decided to recall all affected packages. Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries or adverse reactions from consuming the contaminated products.
Response and Remedy for Consumers
Consumers who have purchased the recalled chicken products should either discard them immediately or return them to the place of purchase. Perdue is offering full refunds to affected customers and can be contacted at 866-866-3703 for further assistance. The contaminated tenders and nuggets can be identified by specific product codes and have a best-before date of March 23, 2025, with the establishment number “P-33944” on the packaging.
It is essential for consumers to be vigilant against foreign material contamination in food products, as it is a common cause of recalls in the United States. From metal fragments to plastic pieces, rocks, and insect remnants, various foreign materials have been found in packaged goods, prompting recalls to ensure consumer safety.
In conclusion, the recall of Perdue chicken nuggets serves as a reminder of the importance of food safety and quality control measures in the manufacturing process. By promptly addressing contamination issues and issuing recalls, companies like Perdue prioritize consumer well-being and trust in their products. Vigilance and caution when consuming packaged foods are key to preventing any potential health risks associated with foreign material contamination.
