Safety Concerns Lead to Product Recall
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Bissell received 183 reports of hot water or steam escaping from the product, resulting in 157 reports of minor burns. The affected steam cleaners were sold in various colors, including green, pink, blue, orange, white, black, purple, and red. Consumers who own a recalled steam cleaner are advised to stop using it immediately.
Recall Details and Resolution
The steam cleaners were manufactured in China and sold online and in stores like Amazon, HSN, Target, and Walmart between August 2008 and May 2024 for $35 to $40. Bissell has announced a recall of about 3.2 million steam cleaners in the US and 355,000 in Canada. Owners of the recalled products can contact Bissell for a $60 credit or a $40 refund.
Recall Follows Previous Safety Issues
This recall comes on the heels of a similar incident involving Black+Decker garment steamers that resulted in burns to users. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission has taken action against companies for delaying recalls on defective products, emphasizing the importance of consumer safety.
Overall, the safety of consumers is paramount, and companies must take swift action to address any potential hazards in their products to prevent injuries and maintain trust with their customers.
