Broward County Law Enforcement Agencies Conduct Large-Scale Anti-Terrorism Training
Broward County residents can expect to see a heavy presence of law enforcement throughout the county as more than a dozen agencies gear up for a potential large-scale terrorist attack, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office. Operation Heat Shield V, a training exercise involving hundreds of officers, deputies, first responders, and volunteers, will simulate responses to a complex coordinated terrorist attack.
Simulated Training Scenarios
The training scenarios will kick off at 4pm on Wednesday at Terminal 19 in Port Everglades. While specific details about the other training locations are not provided, the exercises will mimic “real-life scenarios” that require regional SWAT teams to respond. Participants will engage in simulations of violent attacks using various weapons and tactics, testing their coordination and communication skills under pressure.
Multi-Agency Collaboration
Several local hospitals, as well as police and fire rescue agencies from Broward, Palm Beach, and Miami-Dade counties, will be involved in the training event. Partnerships with federal agencies such as the FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Coast Guard, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, highlight the collaborative effort to enhance preparedness and response capabilities in the event of a terrorist threat.
Overall, the Operation Heat Shield V training will conclude at 6 a.m. on Thursday morning, providing invaluable experience and insights for all participating agencies to improve their readiness and coordination in times of crisis.
By conducting these rigorous training exercises, Broward County law enforcement agencies are taking proactive steps to ensure the safety and security of the community in the face of evolving threats.
