Armed Guardians Training Program at Keizer University
In preparation for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year, approximately 80 armed guardians will participate in a back-to-school training program at Keizer University in Pembroke Pines, Florida. The training, conducted by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, aims to enhance safety in Broward County schools through instruction in firearms use, tactics, de-escalation, and more.
Mission of the Guardians
These guardians are comprised of military veterans, former law enforcement officers, and security personnel who possess the necessary skills to serve as the district’s first line of defense, protecting students and staff. This initiative, which has been in place since 2018, reflects the district’s unwavering commitment to safety and preparedness.
Utilizing State-of-the-Art Training Tools
Keizer University utilized its new Multiple Interactive Learning Objectives (MILO) range simulator for this training program. The MILO system is a cutting-edge simulation learning tool that provides critical incident training, de-escalation tactics, decision support training, traditional tactical judgment training, and firearms proficiency training. This advanced system will also benefit law enforcement and criminal justice students at the university.
In conclusion, the back-to-school training program at Keizer University demonstrates Broward County’s proactive approach to school safety. By equipping armed guardians with the necessary skills and utilizing state-of-the-art training tools, the district is ensuring a safe and secure learning environment for all.
