Democratic National Convention Platform Controversy
Four days before the Democratic National Convention opened in Chicago, the party presented a platform that designated the wrong presidential candidate. The Democratic platform, essentially a document outlining the goals and policy positions the party supports, has been released since July 13, eight days before President Joe Biden dropped his re-election bid and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. It has not been updated since the draft.
Lack of Transparency
The committee responsible for compiling the platform spent more than a year drafting it, including leaving room for comment from key voices and making changes earlier this summer. However, the language awaiting approval by delegates at the convention has not been revised since before Biden dropped out of the race. The rules body will not meet to update the platform before the convention starts on Monday.
Policy Positions and Criticisms
Harris has yet to release a detailed list of her policy positions since taking over as Democratic leader. Some Democrats criticized Republicans for failing to be more transparent when they approved the party’s platform during the Republican convention in Milwaukee last month. The proposed Democratic platform is 80 pages long and focuses on how the Biden-Harris ticket differs from Trump’s.
Transition words such as “however,” “meanwhile,” and “furthermore” can help connect ideas and improve the flow of the text. These words signal to the reader that a shift in topic or perspective is coming, making it easier to follow the narrative. By using subheadings and transition words effectively, you can create a well-structured and coherent piece of writing.
