Investigation into Fatal Three-Vehicle Crash in Broward County
After a tragic three-vehicle chain-reaction crash in Broward County that resulted in the death of two individuals, the Broward Sheriff’s Office has launched an internal investigation to determine the circumstances leading up to the incident. The focus of the investigation is to establish whether deputies were in pursuit of one of the drivers involved in the crash.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Crash
The crash occurred when Gavin Dorvil, 19, of Lauderdale Lakes, was driving a 2023 Tesla Model 3 at a high speed on Sixth Street NW, approaching the intersection of Northwest 27th Avenue. Simultaneously, a 2023 Dodge Durango was traveling south on Northwest 27th Avenue towards the same intersection. Dorvil’s Tesla collided with the driver’s side of the Dodge, causing both vehicles to veer southwest. The Dodge then struck a parked 2024 Chevrolet Trax at the intersection, causing it to overturn.
Injuries and Loss of Life
As a result of the crash, the driver of the Dodge, Lisa Jackson, and passenger Geraldine Francis were pronounced dead at Broward Health Medical Center. Additionally, a minor girl who was also in the Dodge sustained critical injuries. The Sheriff’s Office did not provide information about the driver of the Chevrolet or Dorvil.
Ongoing Investigation and Internal Review Process
Following the discovery of a gun at the crash site believed to have come from the Tesla, traffic homicide detectives have initiated an investigation. The Sheriff’s Office has called in representatives from the Interior Department to determine if any BSO units were pursuing the Tesla prior to the crash.
