Single Mother Arrested for Leaving Children Home Alone at Work
Plantation, Florida. (WSVN) – Police arrested Linda St. Leger, a 36-year-old single mother, for leaving her three children home alone while she went to work at a local convenience store. St. Leger was charged with three counts of child neglect and appeared in court to defend her actions.
Emergency Call Leads to Dangerous Situation for Children
St. Leger’s lawyer explained that she received an emergency call from her employer, threatening her job security if she did not come in to work. Desperate to support her family and avoid potential homelessness, she made the difficult decision to leave her children unattended. However, prosecutors argued that regardless of her motivations, the children were put in harm’s way.
Children Found Unattended with Unsafe Conditions
Police discovered St. Leger’s 10-year-old daughter, 8-year-old son, and 2-year-old boy at home alone, with the eldest child responsible for caring for her siblings. Concerned neighbors called 911 after spotting the 2-year-old wandering outside late at night. When authorities arrived, they found the children unsupervised in a home with dog feces, no food, and dangerously high temperatures.
St. Leger was arrested and her bail set at $15,000. The children were placed in the care of their father as she remains in custody.
Overall, this incident sheds light on the challenges faced by single parents juggling work and childcare responsibilities. While the mother’s intentions may have been driven by financial desperation, the safety and well-being of her children should always be the top priority.
