Florida State Running Back Montrell Johnson undergoes Knee Surgery
Florida State running back Montrell Johnson recently underwent arthroscopic knee surgery after sustaining an injury during training camp. The surgery, described as minor, will require Johnson to undergo treatment on a regular basis as he works towards a full recovery. Despite the injury, Johnson is expected to make a comeback in time for the Gators’ season opener against in-state rival Miami on Aug. 31.
Impact on the Team
As a senior leader on the team, Johnson’s presence on the field has been instrumental in the Gators’ rushing attack over the past two seasons. In 2023, he showcased his skills by rushing for 817 yards and scoring five touchdowns. His absence due to the injury will undoubtedly be felt, but the team is prepared to adapt and make necessary adjustments during training camp.
Plans for the Future
With the loss of backup running back Trevor Etienne and the uncertainty surrounding Carroll’s ability to return to the field, the Gators are relying on new talent to step up and fill the void. Junior college transfer JaCoby Jackson, sophomore Trayon Weber, and freshman Jaden Bowe are expected to play key roles in the team’s running game moving forward. Bowe, in particular, has shown promise with a strong performance in the spring game, rushing for 77 yards on 12 carries.
Overall, the team remains optimistic about the upcoming season and is focused on overcoming obstacles to achieve success on the field. Johnson’s perseverance and determination to recover swiftly will be crucial in the Gators’ pursuit of victory.
