Wild Coyote Visits Fort Lauderdale Family Home
A Fort Lauderdale family found themselves in an unexpected situation when a wild coyote visited their home, sparking concerns for their safety and the safety of their neighborhood.
Surprise Encounter Caught on Camera
The coyote was captured on home surveillance footage wandering around the property near Melrose Manors in the early hours of the morning. The footage showed the animal casually exploring the area, jumping on trash cans, and sniffing around, causing no major disturbance.
Fear and Concern for Safety
The homeowner, Jesse Espinoza, expressed his fear and concern for his family’s safety, as well as that of his neighbors and their pets. The presence of the coyote was described as frightening, and Espinoza emphasized the uncertainty of how the wild animal might react if encountered up close.
He shared, “It’s kind of scary because obviously, I don’t want to be here and see this wild animal, and I don’t know how it’s going to react. I’m scared for my kids and my neighbors.”
Recognizing the potential danger posed by the coyote, Espinoza is actively seeking solutions in case the animal returns, including the possibility of involving Animal Control to assess the situation and address any safety concerns.
As the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission notes, coyote sightings are not uncommon, and as coyote populations continue to grow and become more comfortable living near humans, encounters like this may become more frequent.
Overall, the family hopes that this encounter was a one-time occurrence and that they will not have to face another visit from a wild coyote in the future.
