The Lobster Mini-Season Kicks Off in Hollywood, Florida
As the two-day Lobster mini-season began, a diver in Hollywood, Florida, encountered trouble and had to be taken to the hospital due to difficulty breathing. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue crews responded to the scene near Port Everglades early Wednesday morning, with 7Skyforce providing aerial coverage and police boats on standby.
Diver Hospitalized Due to Medical Issues
Officials reported that the diver experienced medical problems that hindered his ability to breathe underwater. A Marine unit quickly surfaced to bring the diver aboard a boat, where emergency staff administered oxygen. Once back on shore, a rescue truck transported the diver to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he remained conscious and alert during treatment.
Incidents on the First Day of Mini-Season
Unfortunately, it was not just this diver who encountered difficulties on the first day of the mini-season. In a separate incident, a lobster diver in the Lower Keys was airlifted to a Miami hospital after being struck by a boat propeller. Additionally, in Miami Beach, two divers had to be rescued when their boat capsized.
It is essential for all divers to take necessary precautions and follow safety guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries during the mini-season. Stay updated on developments in this story by visiting WSVN.com and 7News.
