Cam Ward Named ACC Preseason Player of the Year
The Atlantic Coast Conference recently announced that Miami quarterback Cam Ward has been selected as the preseason player of the year. Ward, who transferred from Washington State, had an impressive record with the Cougars, passing for 6,963 yards and 48 touchdowns in just two seasons.
Top Contenders and Vote-getters
During the ACC preseason media kickoff, Ward emerged as the top choice with 71 out of 170 votes, beating out North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton, who is a returning AP second-team All-American. Clemson guard Barrett Carter finished third in the voting, receiving 15 votes.
On the preseason ACC roster, Ward led the way with 129 votes, followed by North Carolina receiver Kevin Concepcion with 119 votes. Hampton was the only player to receive at least 100 votes, garnering 114. Notably, Miami boasts five of the best players in the league, with Florida State and Clemson close behind with four and three top players, respectively.
New Schools Represented
The ACC preseason all-conference team includes representation from three new schools: Cal running back Jaydn Ott, Stanford receiver Elic Ayomanor, and SMU running back David Brashard Smith. These additions bring fresh talent and diversity to the conference.
Additionally, the defending champions, Florida State, were named as the ACC preseason favorite, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.
