Support for Kamala Harris in the Democratic Presidential Race
TAMPA, Fla. — U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, representing Florida’s 14th Congressional District, has announced her support for Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate.
The Democratic National Committee’s Rules Committee will kick off the process of securing the presidential election with a meeting on Wednesday. The committee is set to establish rules for a virtual roll call, which could potentially determine the party’s nominee before the Democratic National Convention convenes on Aug. 19.
Next Phase of Nomination Selection
Committee chair Jaime Harrison indicated that the party is progressing into the next phase of selecting nominees. Following the Rules Committee meeting, candidates will have the opportunity to gather a minimum of 300 delegate signatures for their nomination. The ensuing electronic voting process will enable delegates to designate their preferred presidential candidate.
Harrison emphasized that the party will finalize the nominee by August 7.
Excitement Over Kamala Harris’ Campaign
Rep. Castor expressed her endorsement for Harris, highlighting the Democratic Party’s wealth of potential running mates. She characterized the current climate as an invigorating time for the party, with voters displaying high levels of enthusiasm and engagement. Castor voiced her confidence in Harris’s ability to lead a campaign focused on the future.
“She is a patriotic, hard-working American who, unlike President Biden, will be able to articulate our accomplishments and then share a vision for the future. I think her vice presidential campaign will be very exciting.”
