In a recent announcement, Trader Joe’s has issued a recall for approximately 653,000 Mango Orange scented candles due to a fire hazard. The recall was initiated after reports of the wax in the candles becoming engulfed in flames, posing a potential danger to consumers.

The Monrovia, Calif.-based company has received 14 reports of fires caused by the candles, with three incidents resulting in minor property damage and two causing minor burns. The Consumer Product Safety Commission highlighted that the flame of the candles may spread from the wick to the wax, leading to an increased fire risk.
Recall Process and Refunds
Trader Joe’s is urging customers who have purchased the affected candles to immediately discontinue use and return them to any Trader Joe’s store. Upon returning the candles, customers will receive a $4 cash refund. Alternatively, customers can fill out an online form and receive a $4 Trader Joe’s gift card. Proof of purchase, such as a receipt or photo of the candle, may be required.

The recalled candles were sold in June 2024 and are identifiable as white wax candles with cotton wicks in tin containers. Each candle is 5.7 oz and bears the SKU number 56869 on the bottom of the jar. Trader Joe’s, known for its seasonal candle collection, promotes the Mango Tangerine scented candle as a "true tropical treat" evoking a citrus summer breeze.
As Trader Joe’s works towards resolving this issue, the company has not disclosed the total number of units sold or reported incidents of injuries or related fires.
