Warning Issued for Unsafe Infant Loungers and Bassinet Swings
Federal safety regulators have issued a warning urging parents and caregivers to immediately stop using Mamibaby, Yoocaa, DHZJM, Cozy Nation, and Hyhuudth infant loungers, as well as DNYSYSJ and OUKANING bassinet swings, following multiple infant deaths. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reported a total of six deaths associated with these products due to suffocation hazards.
Infant Deaths Linked to Unsafe Products
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) revealed that five deaths of infants were connected to Mamibaby, Yoocaa, and DHZJM brand recliners. Tragically, these deaths included a 10-day-old infant and a 5-month-old infant in Mamibaby brand recliners and two deaths in Yoocaa baby loungers. The products were found to have defects, such as low sides and thick sleeping pads, which posed a significant suffocation risk. Additionally, a fifth baby died in a DHZJM brand baby recliner in 2020.
Recall Information and Product Availability
Despite the safety concerns raised by the CPSC, the manufacturer of the recliners, China’s Ningbo Shuchao Children’s Products Co., has not agreed to recall the following products:
– Mamibaby brand infant lounger
– Mamibaby and Cozy Nation brand infant loungers
– Yoocaa brand infant loungers
– DHZJM brand recliners
– Hyhuudth brand infant recliners
These products were sold online at various retailers during specific time frames, with prices ranging from $20 to $87. The CPSC also issued a warning for the DNYSYSJ and OUKANING bassinet swings, citing a case where a three-month-old baby died in a similar product. Parents and caregivers are advised not to use these swings, available on Amazon.com for prices ranging from $80 to $145.
